The Foxtail pine
A strong contender for the oldest tree on the planet, the foxtail pine is known to live for up to 3,000 years. This isn't surprising considering its closest living relative is the infamous Great Basin Bristlecone pine, the current oldest living organism on the planet. The foxtail pines grow tall and strong and sprinkle themselves across the southern reaches of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in southern California.
The Montery Cypress
Known from only two small populations along the California coast near the city of Montery, the Montery cypress is a local icon in the area. Highly characteristic and speaclized in the habitat in which it grows.
